Tips for Outdoor Summer Weddings

Outdoor weddings are great, but in the heat of Summer, you might be torturing yourself and your guests. Here are some tips to beat the heat and keep everyone comfortable on your big day:

1) Make sure the clothing is appropriate: Everyone, including the bride should be in light, breathable fabrics. A bride buried under ten layers of tulle will be miserable on a hot summer day. Same goes for groomsmen in wools suits. Cotton or linen works best. For the bridesmaid dresses, avoid silks if you don’t want sweat spots in your photos. A wicking fabric or something sleeveless or strapless works well. Be sure to note on your invitations that the ceremony is outdoors so you guests can dress appropriately as well.

2) Offer beverages: Have ice-cold water or lemonade available at the ceremony site to keep your guests hydrated. You could set up a station at a small table where the programs are kept, have ushers help pass drinks, or just set out  a trough of bottles. This is a great opportunity to use personalized bottles. You could even offer a more exciting cold treat like snow cones!

3) Give protection from the sun: Consider getting large fans to cool the whole area ( just be sure they aren’t too loud). Paper fans make great favors and give each guest their own cooling system. Turing your program into a fan is a great idea too! You could rent a large tent or offer parasols for shade. Lastly, don’t forget to have plenty of sunscreen on hand.
