Wedding Queso Fountain

To say I love cheese is an understatement. Until the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, I thought putting queso in a fountain was all my brilliant idea. The truth is, this service is actually offered by a few caterers/ fountain companies and there are couples out there with my same obsession for queso who have attempted this before. Although delicious and fabulous, a queso fountain is not easy to pull off. Without proper instruction, you could clog a fountain or have something that looks repulsive. Here’s all you need to know to set up the perfect queso fountain at your wedding reception:

  • Buy a fondue fountain. You can get the mini one shown here on Amazon.com for under $25. Fountains may also be available at restaurant supply stores.
  • Practice queso recipes at home or talk with your caterer about doing this for you. The queso must be liquid enough to flow through the fountain. I recommend a white queso with little or no chucks. Leah Oliver’s All-Natural White Queso with fresh green chili’s is available at Costco and works great. Blended Velveeta and Rotell works too, but it’s pale pink color is not very appetizing!

  • Follow the instructions provided to set up your fountain. Turn the power on and pour in queso until full.
  • Assign someone (catering manager, wedding planner, etc.) to be in charge of the fountain at your reception. The queso must be kept very hot to stay liquid. If using a small fountain, it will need refilling as the queso is consumed.
  • Serve with Scoop chips or hors d’oeuvres of your choice. Enjoy!

this queso fountain idea was awesome! Super tasty, the whole set up looked great and it was a perfect place pause, grab a a little nibble and chat about the bride’s favorite food ;)

  • In Wisconsin, we would do a cheddar-based cheese fountain during the cocktail hour and would have not only chips to make nachos, but also pretzels, apples, cauliflower, carrots and cooked macaroni to make mac ‘n cheese! You need a little cup for that one in addition to your plates, fyi.

This is also a great idea for late night snacks while the dance is raging on. Excellent note about trying it out first, if your caterer is not providing it. Fountains of any sort (champagne, chocolate or cheese) can be tricky! Great topic!
