Giving your guests a little something sweet (or salty) before they leave the reception creates the perfect late night snack. Here are a few of our favorite edible wedding favors.

1. Gourmet Popcorn: This is not your average movie theater popcorn. Gourmet popcorn shops, such as Uptown Popcorn, have every flavor and color combination imaginable to create custom favor bags or popcorn bars. Think chocolate peanut butter, pink cotton candy or southwest jalapeno — your guests will love this stuff!

2. Chocolate Covered Pretzels: Chocolate is always a crowd favorite, but be careful how you transport it in warmer months. Pairing a small amount of chocolate with a salty pretzel gives you a dessert you won’t feel guilty about. You can provide a variety of toppings from nuts to sprinkles, allowing your guests to pick their favorite.

3. Homemade Treats: Give your guests something really special by making it yourself! This can be anything from homemade jam or mini pies to home-brewed beer. Also consider including the recipe so guests can enjoy your goodies anytime. Be sure to allow plenty of time for creation and packaging.

Remember, any favor you leave your guests, edible or other, should be meaningful and useful. Try to avoid trinkets and items that create a lot of waste.

Out-of-town guests make a special effort to attend your wedding — the travel time, distance and expense is not always easy. Here are some items that will make them feel more welcome:

Information about your wedding and other events planned for the big weekend — Is there a gathering after your Rehearsal Dinner or a brunch the day after? Include contact phone numbers, addresses and directions/maps.

A local snack — Salsa, pecans or barbeque sauce, to name a few for my fellow Texans. Check out TexasFood.com for more Texas-made treats.

A bottle of water — Every guest on the go should be properly hydrated. Add more wedding flair by personalizing the label.

What to do in the area — A museum exhibit, movie theater, your favorite restaurant, etc. Dallas locals look here for a day-by-day event calendar.

Package these up in a bag that matches your wedding theme — like the ones shown here — Then drop the bags off with your hotel concierge. Your guests will love you for it!

Creating your own custom favors without spending a fortune is easy and fun. Here’s everything you need to create the look shown:

• Pyramid Boxes from Paperie: $37.90/50 (Order by the sheet without customization)
• Midori 1/4” ribbon in Spanish Moss: $30.00/54.7 yard roll
• Custom rubber stamp from StampChamp.com: $10 (Simply upload your monogram)
• Silver metallic ink pad from Michaels: $5.00
• White Jordan Almonds from OhNuts.com: $5.49/lb
• Help from your bridesmaids: Priceless!

Total cost for 200 favors: $275.00

Simply gather your materials and your girlfriends and get the assembly line going. First, stamp each box while still in sheets—be sure to stamp the side with the tabs so that the ribbon lays over your monogram. After the ink has dried, punch out your boxes and ribbon holes (sheets come perforated) and cut the ribbon into 9 inch pieces. Now, fold and fill each box with 5 almonds (for health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity). Seal it shut by threading ribbon through the holes and tying a bow.

Make this look your own by changing box design, colors and candy!
