A wedding dress is something little girls dream of their whole lives. We want it big, sparkly, beautiful, and princess worthy. Cinderella set a high bar for us to strive to hit. What you don’t think about as a little girl though is actual wearing this dress all day. Even doing simple tasks, like using the bathroom or eating, become more difficult when you are corseted into a huge dress. Dancing, the main focus of a reception, is much more doable in a smaller, simpler dress. This is why many brides choose to do a wardrobe change on their wedding day. They can let loose, party, and have fun while still looking fabulous! You get the best of both worlds, formal and casual.
When choosing your second dress feel free to go short. It’s a more laid back, cocktail type feel and would be a classy look for your reception. However, if you want to stay in a long dress my advice is to keep it simple. You want your actual wedding dress to be the star of the show, so your reception dress should be a more toned down look but still gorgeous.
You could even choose a color for your dress but you don’t want to blend into the crowd or match the bridesmaids. Some designers make dresses that have removable skirts for an easier and faster dress change. That way you get a ceremony and reception dress all in one. Bigger bang for your buck!
